Avrupa/London - Addressing the 22nd World Petroleum Congress held at İstanbul Congress Centre during the opening ceremony, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "Unfortunately, an important opportunity was missed last week for the Eastern Mediterranean and we are saddened by the fact that the disagreements on the island were once again left unresolved despite the constructive approach of the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkey”.Erdoğan continued, “It is inadmissible that some energy companies are acting with and becoming part of some irresponsible measures taken by the Greek Cypriots. I want to remind them that they could lose a friend like Turkey”.He also stressed that hydrocarbon resources in the waters around Cyprus should belong to all sides on the island as a matter of justice and complying with international law.Erdoğan added, “We expect everyone who has taken sides in the developments in Cyprus to refrain from taking more steps that might pave the way for new tensions in the region”.
