On Sunday there will be road closures in Westminster for the Tour of Britain

Transport for London (TfL) works hard to keep the majority of the transport network open and to provide information and alternative travel options. Londoners and visitors to the city are urged to “check before you travel”, particularly at weekends, and to allow extra journey time where necessary. TfL helps passengers to plan ahead, get travel information on the move and work out the best way home at www.tfl.gov.uk .  The website also provides full bus replacement service information during the works.  Passengers can check before travelling using the following tools:

Sign up for emails on our website http://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/social-media-and-email-updates

Go to http://www.tfl.gov.uk/weekend

Information on posters, leaflets and “service information” boards  at Tube stations

Roads

Roads in these areas may be more congested because of the following events:

On Blackheath music festival, southeast London 13 & 14 September

Invictus Warrior Games, east London 11 – 14 September

Vodafone London Fashion Week, central London 12 - 14 September

Tour of Britain, Westminster Sunday 14 September

Motorists are advised to avoid the Westminster area on Sunday as there will be a number of closed roads for the Tour of Britain which will include Whitehall, Victoria Embankment, Upper and Lower Thames Street, Westminster Bridge and Southwark Bridge.

Run to the Beat, Brent, Sunday 14 September

Motorists are advised to avoid the Wembley area because the Run to the Beat event on Sunday will mean significant road closures in the Wembley area.

Hackney Carnival, Hackney, Sunday 14 September

Motorists are advised to avoid Hackney Central and Dalston areas because the Hackney Carnival event on Sunday will mean significant road closures in the area.

Wandsworth Council’s Putney Bridge repair works continue to progress

Buses are terminating at either end of bridge with passengers needing to make their way across the bridge on foot to complete their journey

Passengers affected by bridge closure will only have to pay once

For more information on the works visit www.wandsworth.gov.uk/putneybridge

Drivers advised to allow extra time for their journeys and where possible change their routes

TfL has ensured bus passengers don’t lose out, or pay twice when their journeys are affected by the closure of Putney Bridge while Wandsworth Council are carrying out repairs.

Vehicles, including buses, will not be able to use the bridge during the works and will need to use alternative routes to complete their journey. Pedestrians will still be able to cross the bridge, as will cyclists - although they will need to dismount. London Buses will operate services from both ends of the bridge, and bus passengers who would usually cross the bridge will need to make their way across to the other side on foot to continue their journey.

Traffic is expected to be congested around the works and alternative river crossings especially during morning and evening peaks. Drivers should allow extra time for their journeys and, where possible, change their routes to avoid disruption. TfL will be providing up to date information through the @tfltrafficnews twitter feed and website to help drivers plan their journey - www.tfl.gov.uk/trafficnews

Passengers with Travelcards, or who travel for free under a concession (around 90 per cent of passengers) will be able to walk across the bridge and continue their journey as normal. Anyone using Oyster pay as you go (PAYG) or a contactless payment card (who make up around 10 per cent of affected passengers) will be able to obtain a “transfer voucher” from the bus driver or a special “transfer card” from dedicated members of staff, which will mean that they also will not have to pay for the second leg of their journey. Passengers who have a transfer card can use it throughout the closure and will not need to obtain a transfer voucher from the driver on each occasion. Transfer cards and vouchers can be used in conjunction with an Oyster PAYG or contactless payment cards which are validated within 60 minutes on a previous bus journey on affected routes.

The frequency of the Route 72 between Roehampton and Hammersmith has been increased to provide an alternative link to the London Underground network.  Details of bus routes affected by the closure of Putney Bridge can be found at www.tfl.gov.uk/putney-bridge-closure

Ealing Council’s improvement works at Southall Broadway westbound

Ealing Council have closed Southall Broadway westbound to carry out improvement works, which are part of their Southall Big Plan and include changing the street layout to improve safety, widen the footways and help smooth the flow of traffic.  The works are expected to be completed by Christmas 2014, with buses returning to normal after this time.

All  bus routes which run through Southall  may be subject to delays, and passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to check the Transport for London (TfL) website before travelling – www.tfl.gov.uk. To minimise delays and maintain a reliable service, TfL has made temporary changes to all 11 bus routes which operate through Southall:  95, 105, 120, 195, 207, 427, 482, 607, E5, H32 and N207. Full details of these temporary bus changes are available online www.tfl.gov.uk/southall-broadway.

Resurfacing works on A406 Southend Road

As part of TfL’s work to maintain and modernise London’s major roads, essential work to the A406 Southend Road in north east London is taking place until mid-October. The existing carriageway surface of the A406 Southend Road between Waterworks’ Roundabout and Charlie Brown’s Roundabout requires essential maintenance work to resurface the carriageway and improve the concrete road base. This work will ensure the road can continue to serve the area for years to come and will provide a better road surface, helping to reduce noise and the need for frequent maintenance in the future.

Drivers are advised to regularly check online at tfl.gov.uk/driving whether their journey will be affected by these works, to allow extra time for their journeys and, where possible, to change their routes to avoid any disruption.

London Underground

Chancery Lane station on the Central line will be completely closed on Sunday to allow for station improvement work.

The Northern line will be partly suspended all weekend between Charing Cross and Hampstead/High Barnet/Mill Hill East as well as between Moorgate and Hampstead/High Barnet/Mill Hill East, owing to track replacement at Totteridge & Whetstone, station improvement work at Woodside Park and points’ maintenance work at Camden Town.

Jubilee line trains are not stopping at Bond Street station until early December because of station improvement works. Customers are advised to use the Central line instead.

Piccadilly line trains are not stopping at Gloucester Road station until mid December 2014, owing to lift replacement work. Customers are advised to use District or Circle line services to Gloucester Road instead.

London Overground

Willesden Junction – Camden Road

London Overground will be partly suspended on Sunday between Willesden Junction and Camden Road via West Hampstead to prepare the network for five-car trains.

New Cross Gate – West Croydon and between Sydenham – Crystal Palace

London Overground will be partly suspended all weekend between New Cross Gate and West Croydon and between Sydenham and Crystal Palace owing to Thameslink work.

London Tramlink

London Tramlink will be suspended between Morden Road and Ampere Way all weekend owing to preliminary work on a new double track at Beddington Lane and drainage works near Mitcham Junction.

Passengers should allow an extra 45 minutes for their journeys.

Trams from Wimbledon will terminate at Morden Road;

Trams from New Addington will terminate at Therapia Lane;

Line 4 will not operate on Saturday 13 September;

Lines 1 and 2 will operate their normal routes.

A replacement bus service will run between Morden Road and Ampere Way serving also Belgrave Walk (stop in Morden Road), Mitcham, Mitcham Junction, Beddington Lane and Therapia Lane tram stops.

It is not possible for these buses to serve Phipps Bridge tram stop, which is served by bus 200 between Wimbledon and Mitcham.

Valid tram tickets will be accepted on the replacement bus service and also local buses. Oyster pay as you go customers can receive a refund if they touch in correctly when boarding and changing modes from tram to bus to complete their journey.

On Sunday there will be road closures in Westminster for the Tour of Britain, in Brent for Run to the Beat and in Hackney Central and Dalston for the Hackney Carnival and there are several other events across London which may cause congestion

Drivers advised to allow extra time for their journeys and where possible change their routes
