Residents of Enfield are encouraged to participate in the Local Heritage List consultation

Residents of Enfield are encouraged to participate in the Local Heritage List consultation to help identify and protect historical assets in the borough.  

The four-week consultation introduces an updated Local Heritage List of 315 entries for local people to provide feedback on.  The responses are vital for Enfield Council to review new inclusions, make amendments to descriptions and request removals within the proposed list of entries. The Heritage List ensures special architectural buildings, sites and landmarks in towns are recognised locally as an irreplaceable asset. They are further protected within the Council’s Local Plan, so their importance is considered when a building alteration is proposed.  Currently, the Council has earmarked 263 assets, which have provided significant benefits in enriching Enfield's history and the updated list has recommended a further 52 entries.  
 
Enfield Council, in line with the Heritage Strategy, is committed to enhancing the local environment through conservation of these assets, which will enforce positive regeneration and economic growth in the borough.  
 
The Leader of Enfield, Cllr Ergin Erbil, said: “Enfield is a borough rich in history, and our cultural heritage is embedded in these wonderful landmarks. Each site on our list has a tale to tell and holds a unique story that reflects the vibrancy and diversity of our community.  
 
“It is essential that we preserve these local treasures for future generations and incorporate them into our planning processes. The Local List is a living document, evolving with our borough. As Enfield changes, evolves and diversifies, further unique landmarks will be added to our list to ensure we recognise the heritage in our communities.”. The Council wants to hear from the wider community to share thoughts and suggestions in identifying and shaping Enfield’s unique characters.
