New development courses for parents and healthcare professionals

Enfield Council has partnered with the Solihull Approach, to sponsor a 12-month programme of free online courses that have been developed by psychologists and professionals to support individuals and families, to help understand the changes in children’s developmental stages and to strengthen relationships between children, young people and their carers.

The Solihull Approach is a not-for-profit NHS service that brings together a team of clinical psychologists, child psychotherapists, health professionals, and child and family practitioners, together with schools and parents to develop training to support people who work with children in any setting, as well as for all parents who want to help nurture emotional health.

The courses are in two categories aimed at parents and carers (prenatal and postnatal) that live in Enfield, and healthcare professionals. There are many free courses for parents and carers, including:

  • Understanding pregnancy, labour and birth
  • Understanding your child’s mental health and wellbeing
  • Understanding your teenager’s brain
  • Understanding your relationships

Some courses are translated into languages such as Bulgarian, Arabic, Polish and Urdu.

Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Enfield Council, Cllr Abdul Abdullahi, said: “I’m delighted the Council has partnered with the NHS’ Solihull Approach, to provide such interesting and informative courses for residents, young people and healthcare professionals.

“These courses will help children and young people to develop and thrive to be kind, sociable and emotionally aware people throughout their lives and will provide support to parents, carers and healthcare professionals.

“I’d encourage as many people as possible to sign up and take advantage of the learnings and opportunities on offer.”

The 12-month courses will be available for parents to sign up to from Friday 1 March.
