“The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another. “
William James
If you find yourself wanting to manage stress in your life, I have learned a number of ways to slow down, at least long enough to catch myself over the years and I would like to share these with you.
1. Be determined to create time for yourself.
The activity really doesn’t matter, as long as you take some time for yourself.
2. Develop a Positive Attitude.
Optimists and positive thinkers experience better health, less stress, and more ‘luck’ in life.
3. Listen to music.
Music has proven health and stress relief benefits, and can be easily used in daily life to relieve stress. Music has a way of calming and soothing the mind and body.
4. Take a day out.
Taking a day out to overview your life direction and purpose is one of the most productive things you can do.
5. Get a Window.
There’s nothing better for breaking your focus for a while than looking out of the window so if you get the chance, get an office with a view.
6. Call a friend.
For any busy person, it is always important in life to have at least one relationship where they know that a listening ear and unconditional acceptance will be given.
7. Slow down and enjoy life.
Just for today, spend time in the slow lane. Leave yourself some extra time this morning. Spend time in the slow lane.
8. Start early.
I could not tell you how much I value being an early riser.
I made waking up at 5.30 a habit six years ago after reading the "Power of Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy. Waking up so early in the morning was initially brutal. As the weeks passed, I began to love my early mornings. There were no distractions or interruptions. It was so quiet and peaceful.
Eventually, I fell into a comfortable rhythm in which I rose at 5.30 and worked until 6.30. I usually use this time reading autobiographies of successful people, inspiring quotes and writing. I discovered with this one extra hour in the morning you can create 365 hours in a year!
In your life time even if you assume you are going to live for only another 40 years ( I wish and pray you live much longer!), 365*40=14.600 hours = 608 days!
If you can work on your beliefs, goals and values for that many hours in life what you can achieve?Do you have any idea how much you can accomplish in 365 hours?
You can go for your dreams "on the side", you can get your body in shape, you can clean out your house, organize your finances, learn a new language and you can change the world. The power of one extra hour a day is so amazing. And it's yours for taking.
May peace be yours as you de-stress your life!
