Turkey 8 days to Cappadocia

Take in the captivating scenery, from its magnificent rock formations in form of chimneys, regarded as a Unesco world heritage, to the lunar landscape. Vivid traces of history, culture and religion are noticeable everywhere you go.

Day 1: Arrival in Antalya

Flight to Antalya. Meet and greet by our travel representatives and transfer to your hotel. Accommodation in Antalya.

Day 2: Mevlana Monastery

After breakfast we will travel through the Taurus mountains which dominate this picturesque area. Konya is the ancient capital of the early middle age empire of the Seljuks and it is still a place of pilgrimage for many religious Turks. It is also the place of Mevlana’s tomb and the famous Mevlana Monastery which is the  foundation site of the religious Order of the Whirling Dervishes. The Monastery, a Museum for Islamic Arts today, is a treasure chamber of Turkish arts-and-crafts. Overnight stay in Konya.

Day 3: Serhatli Underground City

Trip to Cappadocia. En-route you will visit the Sultanhani caravanserai a towering, fortress-like building, built in 1229. Among the highlights of your journey will be a visit to the underground city of Serhatli. Here you will see one of only 50 of this kind to exist, created purely by hand. Overnight stay in Cappadocia.

Day 4: Tuff quarry scenery

The area of Cappadoccia resembles a fantastic moonscape with bizarre cliff-cones, where the inhabitants have carved cave-churches and flats in the tufa-formations. This whole area was formed by volcano. Because of repeated volcanic eruptions huge amounts of ash have covered this area. Due to the impact of the weather, the layers loosened and grooves appeared. The first inhabitants fled from here in the 7th century. They were followed by monks, who made churches, monasteries, and chapels from the soft tufa layers. Overnight stay in Cappadocia.

Day 5: Göreme

In Göreme we will visit the cave-churches decorated with murals in the Göreme National Park (a World Heritage Site). Here nature has created a fantasy landscape consisting of cliffwalls,tufa-pyramids and cones - resembling giant anthills. Later we will visit the Simeon Valley, also known as the Valley of Monks or the Valley of Fairy-Chimneys. You will be amazed by the perfect composition of 10-meter-high, tufa-cones standing both individually and in small groups. In Uchisar we will have great views of the landscape from one of the largest tufa-cones. In the afternoon we will learn about the carpet-making industry, and the process from raw materials, silk and cotton, to the beautifully finished product. Finally we will take a walk in the lovely Avanos, famous for its pottery art. Overnight stay in Cappadocia.

Day 6: Obrukhan

We will be leaving Cappadoccia, and heading to Obrukhan, the famous Seldjuk caravan haven. Then on through the Taurus mountains we will head back to Antalya, where we will spend the last 2 nights. Accommodation in Antalya.

Day 7: Antalya

Today we get the chance to enjoy Antalya, one of the most beautiful cities of the Turkish Riviera Here we will discover the Yivli Minaret, the symbol of the city. We will also be able to see the clock tower on Kalekapsi Square situated on one of the towers of the old city fortress. Here on our walk, we will be given the chance to visit a jewellery workshop and experience the art of jewellery-making. Also we will get to see a fashion show showcasing high quality Turkish leather goods. Finally we visit the Karpazkaldran Waterfalls.

Day 8: Departure flight

Transfer to Antalya airport and your return flight home.
