It has come to my attention that LinkedIn, the social network, will be launching an iPhone and iPad app in Turkish. For those not familiar with LinkedIn, it's a social network which is generally used by people to career network. In my opinion, it probably is much more worthwhile to use than Facebook which nowadays just seems to be simply old and boring. Who wants to spend time on Facebook reading statuses about someone having a great night and looking at pictures of people we barely know anymore? LinkedIn seems to have a clear point; it's career orientated and since our career takes up a large proportion of our life maybe we should take an interest. The negatives of LinkedIn though are that it seems like a lot of people are using it for their egos, to show off how far they've climbed, and as some sort of therapy. However on the other hand I'm sure it's good for networking and finding that dream job.
Life's too short to work hours on a job you don't like especially if it's just for the huge pay cheque. If we all chose subjects that we were genuinely interested in then we would get better grades. That doesn't just go for school days but for life in general. I see many people aiming for professional careers simply for the money and for the prestige and whilst there genuinely are people interested in these careers, there are just as many wasting their time. How often do we see people complaining about their law school workload or whatever on Facebook statuses? I see it so many times and for me that's like hearing a football fan complaining about having to watch Match of the Day!
My advice for anybody who doesn't know what to do with their life is to just do what you love for now and you'll get there. If history is your passion and you think there's no money or career in that, think again. You can always specialize in a subject you're truly passionate about. I don't know what percentage we spend our lives at work but I think a lot of us spend the bulk of our day at work and have two days off at the weekend right? You do the math. You might as well do something you're passionate about if you're able to instead of complaining. This is your life. Live it.
