Two-Day nations strike hits India

WORLD

India, A number of workers today staged a protest as part of the two-day strike at ITO area of New Delhi.

The two-day strike has been called by country's 11 registered trade unions, cutting across party lines, to protest against the "anti-people" policies of the UPA government that include price rise, poor implementation of labour laws and disinvestment in PSUs/increased FDI in various sectors. While talking to media person, national secretary of AITUC, Amarjeet Kaur alleged that the government was not hearing their plea and all the meetings to discuss the issue have failed, which prompted the trade unions to call for a strike as a wakeup call for the government. Police forcibly tried to remove the protesters off the place. Anganwadi general secretary Sindhu said that it was very typical of the UPA government to ignore their plea and said that there were no expectations from the government. She alleged that the Finance Minister was not present at the meeting and the ministers came late at night to discuss the issues.
