Her Majesty's Prison Services in the United Kingdom are already providing chaplaincy services for inmates, for this reason the Britain Alevi Federation initiated contact and held a meeting.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Justice headquarters in London with the Head of Chaplaincy Services Rev. Michael Cavanagh, Regional Manager Mr. Ibrahim Mehtar, London Administrator Ms. Michelle Crerar, Chair of the Britain Alevi Federation Mr. Israfil Erbil, Chair of Britain Alevi Woman Federation Mrs. Ozlem Sahin, Vice-Chair Miss. Zeynep Demir, General Secretary Mr. Savas Hurman and Diplomacy Committee member Mr. Haydar Ulus
At this meeting Alevis and Alevism was introduced and important decisions were made. It was agreed the first Initiation with inmates will be at the London Pentonville prison; then at the earliest rolled over to other prisons across the country.
BAF chair Erbil emphasised the importance of the equality in the chaplaincy services and the importance of carrying out these duties with Alevi values. "We have started these services so that inmates do not distance themselves from their belief" and thanked the Ministry of Justice Chaplaincy Services for their acceptance.
