Former member of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and Bozüyük mayor Ahmet Berberoğlu was arrested on Thursday over suspected fraud. The Interior Ministry divested Berberoğlu of his duties as mayor in December last year over claims of fraud in relation to certain documents produced back in 2006. The Bozüyük Public Prosecutor called Berberoğlu to question him over a document prepared in 2006 with respect to the Bozüyükspor football club. After he testified to the prosecutor, Berberoğlu was referred to a court for arrest. Arrested by the court, Berberoğlu was sent to Bilecik prison pending trial. Bozüyük is a district of Bilecik, a small province in northwestern Turkey.
