Erdogan powerless till oath - Turkish opposition

ANKARA (AA) - All the executive decisions made by outgoing Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, from Friday till the time he will be sworn in as Turkeys next president, will be null and void, claim main Turkish opposition party. The official results of the presidential elections will be announced Friday, therefore Erdogan's relations with his party and the parliament will end after the annoucement of the official results, said Republican People's Party lawmaker and party spokesman Haluk Koc at a press conference Wednesday.
Turkey's ruling AK Party, will choose its new chairman -- and subsequently the country's new prime minister -- during a congress on August 27, but Koc said that Erdogan "cannot lead the congress with this title."
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a group of party lawmakers have called on the opposition party's chairman, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, to resign following the party's poor election performance in the presidential election and convene an extraordinary party congress. Koc said, "As being party members, they should ethically question their attitudes," and added the party's rules are obvious, if they collect enough signatures, the party congress will be ordered."
According to provisional results Erdogan got 51.79 percent of the vote and was elected to a five-year term as president. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the joint candidate of the Republican People's Party and and the Nationalist Movement Party, received 38.44 percent of the votes, and Selahattin Demirtas, candidate of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party, won 9.76 percent.
