Enfield Town Centre is to receive a cash-injection of £6 million to help transform its look and feel, rejuvenate the local economy and create a more welcoming, safer environment for all.
Enfield Council made a successful bid to the Mayor of London / Transport for London’s Liveable Neighbourhoods fund which will go towards the large-scale regeneration of the town.
Rejuvenating the local economy will come hand-in-hand with making Enfield Town a cleaner and greener place to visit by reducing pollution, creating new and improved public spaces, making safer and more accessible pedestrian areas and linking to Enfield’s existing cycle network. Enfield Town is set to be transformed into a hub that people will want to visit, work and live in.
Cllr Nesil Caliskan, Leader of Enfield Council said: “We want to rejuvenate and regenerate Enfield Town Centre by building on our Enfield Town Master Plan to turn it into a bustling and thriving market town and to create a vibrant, evening economy, thereby making Enfield the destination of choice for people both inside and outside the borough.

“In addition, Enfield has huge potential for business which we plan to unlock by significantly increasing its connectivity. We have already begun talking to traders and businesses to understand what we can do to generate real and lasting changes to the area which will encourage the thousands of residents living nearby to visit more often.”
The Leader has already met with the Enfield Town Traders’ Association to discuss their views and to encourage them to share their ideas on how we can help support their businesses. Meanwhile, broader investment in Enfield Town has already begun, with Deutsche Asset Management acquiring Palace Gardens Shopping Centre last year on top of the previous acquisition of Palace Exchange Shopping Centre, and with further investment to come.
Residents, businesses and other stakeholders will play a vital role in telling us what they think about the plans. Enfield Council will be using a wide range of tools to get the message out to as wide an audience as possible ranging from online hubs, to community exhibitions, co-design workshops and pop-up displays in the town centre.
The Leader of Enfield Council added: “We’ll be building strong partnerships as part of this re-generation, working closely with the new owners of the shopping centre, the Old Enfield Charitable Trust and the Enfield Town Business Association. Through a combination of external investment and constructive collaboration, we have an opportunity to transform Enfield for generations to come.”
