"The possible consequences of further international spread are particularly serious in view of the virulence of the virus, the intensive community and health facility transmission patterns, and the weak health systems in the currently affected and most at-risk countries," the WHO's emergency committee on Ebola said after its first meeting. Ebola is a contagious disease for which there is no known treatment or cure. The WHO says 932 people are known to have died in the most recent outbreak, which began in Liberia in June. The disease has now spread to Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria.
