So Selfies were the craze of 2013 and they are continuing to be the craze of
2014, this in itself I find crazy. The way people are going on about selfies
it's as if selfies were only invented in 2013! The truth is selfies have
been going on for years. It drives me crazy how the media go on about
selfies and how there are endless pictures of people taking selfies. Even me
writing this is not helping the case. If the media were suddenly to put it
out there that it was all about having a picture taken with a cat, everyone
would start taking a picture with a cat.
Maybe I am missing something. Is there something different about the selfies
taken in 2013 onwards to the ones that were taken before? If I remember
correctly Libby from Neighbours took a group selfie years back, and nobody
made a fuss about that. And what about all those Big Brother audition video
tapes where people were filming themselves? Nobody seemed impressed about
that either and if anything you'd expect people to be more impressed about
getting a video camera working than someone simply pressing a button on a
phone!
What is more annoying about these selfies is that the people taking them are
acting like three years olds that have learnt how to open the fridge for the
first time! Some of the smiles in these selfies beam like, "OMG we're about
to take a selfie" and are cringe with a capital C! Yes, said in sarcastic
tone, you can actually take a picture of yourself with your phone, it has
been possible for years and was possible before you had that phone! And why
put a selfie up of yourself on the net when it is clear you have been posing
about in your room for hours? I don't think it's cool to give that
implication to people.
There is a big wide world out there, with a million pictures better than
ourselves and there is also probably a bathroom nearby with a mirror we can
check ourselves in that probably tells the truth better! Oh and your friend
beside you will probably take a better picture than you too because they
won't have the trouble of having to put their phone in a weird angle.
This, of course, is all said in good humour.
We are all somewhat guilty of being involved in selfies and at least we can
mock the craze and ourselves about it. What has changed with the selfies
from 2013ish onwards is that when we do take selfies we don't necessarily
take ourselves seriously in them. We can laugh at pictures of ourselves
standing in front of the mirror holding our phones. We know our phones are
there and that it might look odd, but we can laugh at ourselves. We all want
to get involved in this selfie craze. And who has more patience than
ourselves when it comes to taking the perfect picture? Us of course. It is
very unlikely you will find an amazing friend who will offer to take a
picture of you for the fiftieth time.
You might be bored of taking regular selfies, but now there is a new app
that is all about selfies and making selfies look even better. The app is
called SelfShot, and it's free to download in the Apple Store. The app
involves taking a selfie of yourself and then placing it on a really cool
background such as a snowscape or in the sea. You can then share your selfie
and the most liked selfies win a roundtrip ticket from Turkish Airlines. I
think that's a pretty good deal, and since we all seem to be into selfies at
the moment, I recommend the app to all. It's also a great app for those
creative types out there. I have already downloaded the app and highly
recommend it.
