Head of the UNESCO Chair in Journalism and Communication Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Shyngyssova Nazgul writes for Avrupa Times

The I International autumn Media School, organized in 2016, coincided with the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Chair in Journalism and Communication. The Autumn School, held within the framework of the global media and Information Literacy Week, in different years gave lectures and practical classes to young journalists, PR specialists, students of the media industry of the USA, Europe, Russia. The school was attended by young specialists from Afghanistan, Iemen, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan.
The world has moved to digital. Along with the possibilities of the digital age, new technologies, cyber threats, digital inequality, etc. In this regard, the importance and role of Information Literacy in the field of education is high. Media Information Literacy - effective use, critical assessment, correct understanding, perception, analysis, competent creation and distribution of information and media products. The goal of the autumn school is to improve these skills, competencies and skills, to contribute to the creation of a safe, fair digital society.


This autumn school was held in a hybrid format. Dean of the Faculty of journalism Temirgali Kopbaev wished success to the participants of the media school and stressed the importance of the Global Week in building a safe, fair, inclusive society.


Since 2007, the International Organization UNESCO has been working comprehensively to improve Media Information, Digital and technological literacy. This year's Global week was dedicated to multilateral cooperation within the digital space and digital platforms. Sergey Karpov, a specialist of the communications and Information Department of the UNESCO Cluster Office, outlined the 16th goal of sustainable development and noted the impact of media information literacy on developing sustainable development goals and improving the quality of Education. 


The president of the foundation of Turkic-speaking journalists Nazia Bisenova focused on the activities carried out by the foundation together with the Faculty of journalism, highly appreciated the role of the Autumn School in professional development, gave a meaningful lecture in the interview genre to the audience.
During the media school, speakers conducted practical classes related to the creation of a high-quality media content, critical assessment, and the use of a high-quality content. 


Bella Orynbetova, a representative of the International Organization" Internews-Kazakhstan", taught the technique of writing texts with interesting cases in the format of storytelling, creating storytelling content. Aybar Olzhay, general manager of the External Relations Service of Kazakhstan Sustainability Fund JSC, spoke about the tasks and methods of anti-crisis communication, creative solutions. The audience of the media school listened with interest to lectures and practical cases by Tlek Abdrakhimov, Corporate Communications Manager of Air Astana JSC, and Lyazzat Alzhanova, director of corporate communications of Astana Group.

At the Autumn School, Gulmira Junushalieva, head of the Department of advertising and public relations of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (Kyrgyzstan), Galina Zueva, associate professor of Penza State University (Russia), PhD student of Debrecen University (Hungary), DOSZ ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary Nazira Abdinasir, etc.conducted lectures and practical classes on such topics as "image of global actors in post-Soviet Central Asia", "psychological effects in media marketing", etc.
The autumn school will last until October 31 in an online format.
