Nevruz Celebration in London

On Wednesday 27 March 1700 people joined together in London to celebrate the Spring festival, Nevruz, and 20 years of Turksoy, the International Organization of Turkic Culture, with a colourful, cultural and spectacular show in Westminster Central Hall.

Musicians, singers and dancers travelled from many countries, from Cyprus and Turkey on the Mediterranean, through Uzbekistan, and as far as Tyva, part of the Russian Federation north of Mongolia, where there are communities who speak Turkic languages.

Audience members and embassy representatives from Turksoy member countries were taken on a musical journey that demonstrated the cultural connections between geographically separated communities. In splendid traditional costumes the performers brought a touch of Spring to London with folk dances, song and music. 

Performers participated from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Altai (Russian Federation), The Republic of Bashkortostan (Russian Federation), Gagauzia (Republic of Moldova), Khakassia (Russian Federation), Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Sakha – Yakut (Russian Federation), Tyva (Russian Federation). 

The show will continue to tour through Turkey and other countries. 

TURKSOY: THE CULTURAL BRIDGE OF THE TURKIC WORLD

The concert was presented by TURKSOY which is an international organization of cultural cooperation established in order to explore, promote and transmit Turkic culture to future generations and is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of its foundation this year.

Within the last 20 years of its activity since its foundation, TURKSOY has not only promoted the rich Turkic culture but also contributed to the creation of new intercultural bridges thanks to the universal language of culture and art.

The 2013 Nevruz Celebrations is realized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, the Promotion Fund of the Prime Ministry of the Republic of Turkey and the Embassies of the following countries; Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation and Turkey.
