The University created the "Centre for Studies on Turkey" (CST) in late 2008 in order to analyze scientifically the cultural, economic, legal, social and political issues in Turkey. The main objective of CST is to conduct researches and realize events with an interdisciplinary approach and later analyze them. CST also makes international collaboration with universities worldwide and organizes conferences in specific subjects. The seminar will provide information on the current crisis in Europe – discussing where the refugees arriving in Europe are coming from and in what numbers; where are they heading and why; why different countries are taking different approaches to the refugees; and what aspects of EU legislation help or hinder the problem. Due to the crucial geopolitical, historical and cultural role Turkey plays within the Middle East, another purpose of this seminar is to evaluate and discuss not only the role but also contemporary problems that Turkey faces with Syrian refugees. in cooperation with Ceftus and University of London, with the participation of esteemed guest speakers sharing their knowledge and experience.
