A meeting on Kazakhstan’s achievements in the United Nations Security Council was held in London. According to British Minister of State for Europe and the Americas Alan Duncan, Kazakhstan’s initiatives during its membership in the UN Security Council raised the country’s profile in the international arena.
ALAN DUNCAN, MINISTER OF STATE FOR EUROPE AND THE AMERICAS, UK:
-I think they’ve shown regional leadership and they’ve given example to the whole of that part of Asia that, you know, you are now on the map, you can play your full part. And I hope that it will encourage neighboring countries to have the same sense of engagement and participation in the very important multilateral organization, which is the United Nation.
The meeting was attended by British Government officials, foreign diplomats and members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom who shared their views on Kazakhstan’s achievements during its term as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council. British analysts emphasized that Kazakhstan addressed the most challenging issues of the modern world during its UN Security Council membership, such as non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and settlement of international conflicts.
LORD LOTHIAN, CHAIRMAN, GLOBAL STRATEGY FORUM:
-Two things are needed for making peace. One is the dialogue. Another is a location to hold that dialogue. And Kazakhstan at the moment is involved in both of those. And I hope to see that growing and strengthening.
At the meeting, Kazakhstan’s Embassy in the United Kingdom organized a photo exhibition and demonstrated video clips on Kazakhstan’s activities in the United Nations.
